Waxing is such a popular service for both clients and estheticians. As a consumer who may be thinking about waxing for the first time or if you've had trouble in the past with waxing maybe this will help! Waxing is one of the best options for hair removal, especially if you are prone to in- grown hairs when shaving. Now it's no secret that waxing can be slightly painful and uncomfortable depending on the area and your pain tolerance. However, the pain doesn't last nearly as long as the results do!

Know your allergies and sensitivities! There are so many brands of wax on the market. One way to combat any reactions in the treatment room is to know your sensitivities. Ask your esthetician what brands of waxes they use and as you receive services over time, know what you react well to and what may cause you irritation.
Pay attention to how you prep for a wax. When we have access to so many new beaty products and services, it's easy to lose track of what ingredients are in the products we use. Being mindful of retinol use in the areas you are getting waxed is imperative. Retinol use too close to a wax can cause the skin to bruise or even bleed. Timing your wax appointments appropriately and keeping track of product use is essential in preventing contraindications and lowers the likely-hood of you leaving bruised!
Keep up with you wax schedule! Waxes in sensitive areas like the Brazilian wax can be very intense your first time. Fortunately, waxing allows for the hair to be pulled from the root and slows down how fast the hair grows in. When clients keeps up with their waxing schedule every month (4-6 weeks) the hair grows in finer and typically with each wax, the pain becomes more tolerable. Side note, a good esthetician can assist with the pain with a quick snatch and adequate pressure!
Do your part at home! There are a few instructions your waxer may give you to prep and post appointment. Please listen! We ask you to AVOID working out, sexual intercourse, exfoliation and hot showers! Essentially your wax was a form of exfoliation and you have a fresh layer of skin cells and open pores that may be susceptible to sweat, dirt and other pathogens. Once that 24hr period passes feel free to continue about your normal routine and remember to keep those areas cleansed exfoliated and moisturized to keep the skin healthy!
