We are all on the quest for the perfect skincare routine. The pandemic has created a spike in interest for skincare products due to the decrease in in-person activities. Skincare has now taken the place of a "beat face". Everyone is in love with the natural look, and what better way to achieve the look that with beautiful, glowing, even toned skin? However, that's not all of our story! Skincare can be very complex to understand, so my advice? Keep it simple,
Tailoring your routine doesn't have to be complicated or 1 million steps. Sometimes just a few of the RIGHT steps will do the trick! The biggest difference in your routine. Skin health can be determined in the: What, When, Where, and How.
WHAT: What products are you using? What do they claim to do? I know I sound like a broken record, but the skincare faves of your favorite influencer may not be your bestfriend! What you use on your skin should be determined by your current skin type and the condition you are trying to treat, Properly identifying your skin type will help you narrow down the cleansers, toners, masks, serums and other staples that will add to the efficacy of your regimen.
WHEN: When are you choosing to do your skincare? When do you use certain products like serums, masks, and exfoliants? Most Skincare routines are divided into a morning and evening routine. The morning routine is meant to help give your skin what is needed to protect it from daily damage and pollutants. The evening routine is meant to rid your skin of the dirt and debris of the day, while introducing products and ingredients to help regenerate & replenish the skin while resting. Using your products at the right time of day for example, Vitamin C can make a huge difference in how effective each product works. Also the "when" matters if using products like SPF, some will have directions to use at least 10-15 minutes before sun exposure. When you use your products can make or break your skincare.
WHERE: Where are you doing your skincare routine? Is the environment sterile and clean before beginning your routine? We have all had to share our bathrooms or just had a busy day and let the bathroom get messy. However making sure where we are doing our routines are sanitary and sterile will reduce the potential growth and bacteria that can occur in bathrooms. The surfaces like countertops and sinks are just a few that should be wiped down regularly to keep and clean environment for your in-home spa.
HOW: How are you applying your skincare products? The methods you use to apply your products are important. Personally, I am a fan of using your digits, yes I love lathering my cleanser in with my fingers, not a brush! I can wash my hands and make sure they are squeaky clean before applying products. How do you get your products to penetrate? Using heat or steam is a method used while masking and applying serums to open pores and increase product penetration! Adversely, using cold tools like a jade roller or globe can help finish close pores, seal in moisture and reduce puffiness at the end of your skincare routine. How you apply product matters!
