Spilling the Tea on Skin Care!

January is National Hot Tea Month! Discovering Teas + Skin Health

It's commonly known that herbal teas have many different health benefits depending on the type of tea you brew! Teas have been known to improve internal and external bodily functions. You may be surprised to know that some of your favorite hot tea blends may have benefits for your skin! Teas are packed with antioxidants. Antioxidants inhibits oxidizing agents in living organisms. For your skin this means antioxidants prevents cellular damage that can ultimately cause fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C and E are examples of antioxidants that protect your skin from pollution and free radicals that can speed up the aging process!

Tea can have amazing benefits for your skin through ingestion or some skin care brands have found ways to infuse them into topical products! Here are 3 popular teas that have skin benefits!

Tea #1 - White Tea

White tea has antioxidants that protect the skin from extrinsic damage and stressors, while also containing phenols that strengthen collagen and elastin. Both collagen and elastin play a integral role in your skins ability to recover and "bounce back" from damage. As we age our collagen production slows down.

Tea #2 - Green Tea

In addition to Green Tea having antioxidant properties, this tea is also antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. Bacteria causes acne and inflammation is linked to rosacea and psoriasis. Inflammation inside the body often shows outwardly on the skin, by calming inflammation with a glass of green tea you may see clearer, more vibrant skin. Green Tea is great for oily skin by unclogging pores and acting as a light exfoliant. However consistency is Key!

Tea #3 - Chamomile Tea

Chamomile Tea is most know for its ant-inflammatory and calming properties. Issues that are associated with rough and sensitive skin are treated with this tea. The reason chamomile tea is the "go to" for eczema and rosacea is because of its ability to speed up the healing process of the skin irritation it is treating. Along side its antioxidant properties this allows chamomile tea to heal scars, reduce wrinkles and breakouts.
